Description
As Cooperstown eagerly awaited the back-to-back inductions of fan favorites Mariano Rivera and Derek Jeter, longtime Hall of Fame voter and award-winning journalist Mark Newman took an accompanying and unique look into the proud history of the most successful sports franchise in the world. Yankee Legends is a Hall-centric approach to the Bronx Bombers featuring 50 new essays and many more tidbits, with special emphasis on all the pivotal points in pinstripe past.
It’s Yogi Berra and Jorge Posada learning to catch, Whitey Ford and Mo perfecting new out pitches, Sparky Lyle and Goose Gossage revolutionizing bullpen usage, Miller Huggins and Joe Torre entrusted by new ownership mindset, big-game emergence by Herb Pennock and Andy Pettitte, and a never-ending parade of megastars from Babe Ruth to Lou Gehrig to Joe DiMaggio to Mickey Mantle to Don Mattingly to Aaron Judge.
The author of number one bestseller Diamonds from the Dugout focuses specifically on all of their most pivotal moments, based on many hours of research inside the rich Hall of Fame library and on interviews with Yankee personnel over the years. Fans will look differently at the Hall s hallowed Gallery, where 16 of the 20 walls or alcoves are graced by plaques representing the franchise that had 27 world championships and counting entering 2018.
