Description

In All About Sir Edmund Hillary children will learn about the life and adventures of this amazing and interesting man.

Born in 1919, he grew up in Auckland, New Zealand and grew to be very tall at 6 foot 2 inches. Explorer and adventurer, Sir Edmund Hillary, spent his life climbing the tallest mountains in the world. He loved to explore and that passion would lead to great accomplishments.

In 1953, Sir Edmund Hillary and his Sherpa climbing partner, Tenzing Norgay, reached the top of Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world at 29,002 feet. No one before them had succeeded, in reaching the peak. When this happened, a journalist traveling with the team quickly published the story, letting the world know that for the first time the top of Mount Everest had been reached. Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were credited with being the first people on Earth to conquer Mt. Everest. In All About Sir Edmund Hillary, readers will find out what Edmund Hillary did to make this climb complete.

After his adventures, he established the Himalayan Trust to donate money to the impoverished country of Nepal to build schools and hospitals.

All About Sir Edmund Hillary has illustrations throughout it and is geared mainly toward children in grades 4th through 8th.
