Each of us engages with the world through our own particular complement of senses, whatever those might be. By tuning in to the senses, we can find new ways to cheer up, calm down, engage with the people and the world around us, and even touch the transcendent. Life in Five Senses is a six-month journal that prompts you to explore your five senses and how they work together.

  • “Life in Five Senses is a great opportunity to spend time in Gretchen Rubin’s inimitable company. But it’s also an inspiring and practical guide to living in the moment. Many books have tried to teach us the power of the present. But Rubin creates her own tools and forges her own path — one that readers will surely want to follow.”
    – Susan Cain, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Bittersweet
  • “Right now, what the world needs most is people who have come to their senses—who have reunited with the power and wisdom of their body. Rubin’s Life in Five Senses—woven with compelling story, research, and practice—invites us into that seismic shift to a life grounded in sensation, vitality, and innate intelligence.”
–Glennon Doyle, New York Times bestselling author of Untamed and Together Rising
  • The Four Tendencies will immediately improve every area of your life—and I say this from personal experience. If you’ve been feeling stuck in your relationships, career, health, or self-confidence, understanding your Tendency and how to make it work for you is the game-changer you’ve been looking for.”
–Melissa Urban, author and cocreator of The Whole30
  • “Aided by her formidable intelligence and willingness to try anything, she spent a year road-testing every theory about happiness she could get her hands on, using her own life as the road.”
  • “Rubin writes with keen senses of self and narrative, balancing the personal and the universal with a light touch.” “Rubin’s project makes curiously compulsive reading, which is enough to make any reader happy.”
    Publishers Weekly, starred review
  • The Happiness Project lays out life’s essential goals…Her new book, Better Than Before: Mastering the Habits of Our Everyday Lives , serves as a kind of detailed instruction manual on how to achieve them.”
