He is currently known for his work at ESPN since 1966. Before ESPN he posted 864 wins as an NBA coach, including an NBA championship with the Portland Trailblazers. He also coached the Philadelphia 76ers, Buffalo Braves and Indiana Pacers. Before joining the ESPN staff he served as TV game analyst for the Philadelphia ’76ers and the Miami Heat. He is the author of Pressure Basketball (Prentice Hall, 1963). Dr. Neal Vahle received his doctorate from Georgetown University. He is the author of seven books, including, with Buddy Bell, Smart Baseball: How Professionals Play the Mental Game, (St. Martin’s Press, 2005). He has served as a journal and magazine editor, and as publishing director of Heldref Publications in Washington, DC.
